Congratulations are in order to assistant carer Peter Gough and head chef Jayne Lee, from Cartref Annwyl Fan Care Home, in Betws, who won medals at the Wales Care Awards.
Peter who has only been working at the care home for two years was awarded the Dignity in Care Award and Bronze in Carer of the Year at the ceremony in Cardiff on October 21.
Explaining why he thought the judges had chosen him, 47-year-old Peter said: You just try and make the residents happy, because some of them do not have any visitors and you are the only person they talk to all day."
You can really make a huge difference to their mood, and if they are happy - with a smile on their face - then we are happy as well.
The homes Head Chef, Jayne, 49, won Chef of the Year. She has worked at Cartref Annwyl Fan for 13 years. She said: I cant believe it. It hasnt sunk in yet, Im so happy. She added: The key is listening to a residents wants and understanding their needs.
The success of Cartref Annwyl Fan, part of Hallmark Care Homes, does not end there. Peter, amazingly for someone in the early years of their career, has also reached the finals of the National Care Awards.
Everyone at Castell Howell Foods Ltd would like to wish Peter every success at the ceremony which is held at the London Hilton Metropole on November 25.
